Restaura Biomas recognizes that social and cultural norms influence the roles, responsibilities and priorities of women and men in project areas. The project also recognizes that historical and ongoing inequalities often place women at a disadvantage, limiting their influence and participation in decision-making processes. For this reason, Restaura Biomas adopts a systematic and proactive approach to advancing gender equality and equity throughout project design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. The project implements measures to: • Avoid exacerbating existing gender inequalities; • Ensure equal opportunities for women and men to benefit from project activities; • Promote equal opportunities for women and men to participate in decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.

Restaura Biomas does not tolerate any form of violence against women.

Meaningful engagement with stakeholders—including individuals, communities and institutions—is essential to ensuring informed and effective participation throughout the project lifecycle. This includes identifying stakeholders, sharing information in a clear and accessible manner, conducting inclusive and ongoing consultations, and incorporating stakeholder input into decision-making processes.
Restaura Biomas will not implement activities that result in physical resettlement or physical and economic displacement. Restoration activities, Payments for Ecosystem Services initiatives and carbon-related projects are planned for private lands and/or federal protected areas. These activities operate within legal frameworks established by the Brazilian Forest Code (Law No. 12,651/2012) and the National System of Protected Areas (Law No. 9,985/2000), which provide legal safeguards for private and public protected areas, respectively.
This safeguard standard applies to Restaura Biomas because the project includes habitat restoration and reforestation activities. The project promotes the use of bio-inputs and agroecological inputs while observing the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA) List of Pesticides for Non- Agricultural Use and the Guidance Manual for the Management of Invasive Exotic Species in Federal Protected Areas. These measures help prevent and mitigate adverse impacts on ecosystems and biodiversity. At the same time, the project seeks to maximize positive outcomes for habitats and biodiversity by prioritizing restoration areas that contribute to water security, ecological corridor implementation and maintenance, and connectivity between protected areas. These actions strengthen ecosystem services beyond the restoration sites themselves.
This safeguard standard protects the rights of Indigenous Peoples and traditional peoples and communities, including the application of Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC), where applicable, and the incorporation of their perspectives throughout project implementation. The safeguard also seeks to ensure that benefits are culturally appropriate and that these groups have access to the Restaura Biomas Grievance Mechanism. Although Restaura Biomas does not include restoration activities within Indigenous Territories or collective traditional territories, Indigenous Peoples and traditional peoples and communities may participate in project activities as beneficiaries and/or suppliers of restoration inputs.
